How odd to sleep in a house again.

It was an unbeatable week in Chadron, NE with the Welch tribe (daughter Cheryl, Steve, Mackenzie and Greta), culminating in a Down Under party on our last night. At last we are ready, with bags packed. We’re traveling light, demonstrating not so much that it can be done as that it can be attempted. Our computer is in Art’s backpack. Mine contains binoculars, camera, toiletries. The luggage has our guidebooks, Servas books, and books to read on board the ship. Oh yeah, and a few clothes.

We bundle up our trusty Chinook and leave it in the care of the buffalos. Feels very weird to leave it behind. Cheryl and the girls drive us the 100 miles to Scotts Bluff, spend a final night in a hotel with us, and before dawn on Sunday morning deliver us to the small airport where both ticketing agents are named Larry. As far as we know they’re not brothers. The Larrys keep turning up to guide us through the airport experience. We wonder if they will pilot the plane, too.

Fourteen and a half hours later we arrive in Norfolk, VA where we discover we may be traveling even lighter than we expected. Luckily we have the good humor of cousins Nancy, Sue, and Jinny to sustain us till yesterday afternoon when our wayward luggage turned up. Also a treat via FedEx: a beautiful calendar, created by daughter Chelsea, chock full of family photos.

If the weather forcast is correct, we’ll celebrate Thanksgiving in the midst of a nor’easter. Unless we’re washed away by floods, on Friday we set sail aboard the Matisse!

Dear friends,
You are really traveling light, we couldn't do it without at least a case of books.
Don't get seasick!

Bob and I were just wondering how your "launch" went. By the looks of it, you'll be ready to join NASA when you return. If you got any lighter you'd be on the atral plane! Maybe you already are? I have found a small place in one of your pockets for my spirit to go with you, however, so don't be surprised if I turn up in Kangarooland to give you spiritual hug! Travel well. We miss you in Vermont! Love, Annette
